“The crisis of the community, its dislocation, the distress of most of its members, went hand in hand with technological progress and social differentiation.”

During my MArch studies I have been privileged to explore two very different areas within the subject of architecture.  Year one of my masters was focused on computational architecture, dipping in and out of areas such as minimal surfaces, algorithmic design solutions and digital fabrication completing my dissertation on ‘Biomimicry’ and shell structures found in natural environments. I developed a strong interest in structural design deriving from natural influences and tied this into my final project by applying a structurally sound roof to a subterranean space in form of a origami design, developed through ‘grasshopper’.

Although, the programme behind my thesis was developed through research, backed by a social and political agenda to combat local poverty and unemployment synonymous with the Bethnal Green area, the acknowledgement of the historical significance of the leather industry and craftsmanship in Bethnal Green and Brick Lane Area was the key driver for the project. I am also respectfully proposing a project in dialogue with the neighbouring Weavers Fields Park thus creating a programme, which is historically, socially and architecturally significant to the area.
